Video Feature: The Seeley Residence, Edward Killingsworth (1953)
October 2003, Edward Killingsworth met with Patsy Seeley for the first time since building her 1953 home in the Los Cerritos area of Long Beach. It was as if it had only been a few short years since they had last spoke. Her home was one of his earliest solo designs, and was a close cousin to his very first post and beam structure, The Baird home/office, which was built for his in-laws. Mrs Seeley talks about how well the house had served her; so much so that she made no significant changes in all the years she lived there. Mr. Killingsworth speaks about how Mrs. Seeley came to hire him, the home’s similarities with the Baird home/office, and the difficulties he had financing his cutting edge designs. This is a short 8 minute edit of over 1 hour of conversation.
