Designed by early modernist movement pioneer R.M Schindler in 1923, the design employs “slab tilt” concrete construction, redwood and glass. Designated Historical Landmark No. 117 named “El Pueblo Ribera” (a six unit project), the work represents one of only two of his projects in San Diego. Schindler wrote of his plans- “I propose to treat the whole in true California style, the middle of the house being the garden, the rooms spreading wide into it, the floors of concrete, close to the ground.”
